During June and July 2006 the world has been following the FIFA World Cup 2006. The matches will all be played in Germany in the following 12 cities: Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hannover, Kaiserslauten, Leipzig, Munich, Nurenburg and Stuttgart. That's a lot of football!
1966 was England's finest hour when they won the FIFA World Cup as hosts. Geoff Hurst's hat-trick in the final helped defeat Germany 4-2!
In 2002 England were looking good when Michael Owen scored in the quarterfinal against Brazil. Despite finishing with 10 men Brazil came back to gain a not too convincing 2-1 win.
This time England crashed out in the quarter finals, beaten 3 -1 on penalties after the match with Portugal ended 0- 0. David Bekham went off injured and Wayne Rooney was sent off by Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo. The English team went home defeated.
Never mind lads, there is always 2010!
