There are 2 types of Alligators:

* The American Alligator which grows up to 3.5 m long and weighs 270 kg. It's found only in the southern part of the United States of America.
* The Chinese Alligator which grows to 1.8 m. It's found in the lower Yangtze River basin in China.

Alligators can swim very well with the help of their tails and they also use their webbed feet.

They spend the most of their life in the water.

Thier tail is half the animal's length.

Alligators belong to the family Crocodilia, which includes the alligators, caïmans, crocodiles and gharials.

They can live about 30 to 35 years in the wild and up to 50 years in captivity.

The Alligators are nocturnal and feed at night.
They are carnivorous, and eat mammals, fish, birds, turtles, reptiles...
The young Alligators eat insects, snails, small fishes...
