Lions look like big cats but don’t put your hands in their mouth!!!

Lions are unique in that they are the only cats to live in groups (prides).
The pride can consist of as many as thirty to forty lions the majority of which are females and their offspring along with a small number of resident males. Pride members perform a greeting ritual upon meeting; they rub their heads and sides together, with tails looped high, while making friendly moaning sounds.

Lions are hunters. They hunt at night. Their prey are often antelopes, gazelles and wildebeests but also bigger animals like buffalos, zebras or giraffes.

They can survive for long periods without water, obtaining moisture from prey and plants.
One of the few animals that will attack lions are hyenas, they also have been known to kill each other in fights over prey.

Lions are living on desert fringe, in woodland or open savannah. Lions once ranged from north Africa through south west Asia, west into Europe and east into India.
They live for 12-16 years in the wild and 25 years in captivity.
