Elephants are the largest
and heaviest living land animal. There are
3 subspecies left on earth : the African known
as the Forest elephant
found in the rainforest of the African
continent, the Asian
elephant and the Savannah
elephant.
In elephant society,
the leader is an old grandmother and she takes care of all of the
family in the herd.
They can communicate
in many differents ways and with their senses.
The position of their ears show what mood
an elephant is in.
Their sense of smell can be used to know the
health of an another elephant.
And they can communicate by sound with human
beings.
An elephant can live
for 70 years!
The Savannah elephant and the forest elephant
live for 55-60 years and over 80 years in
captivity.
An Asian elephant lives for 70 years.
Have you ever heard the saying that 'An elephant never
forgets"? Do you think it is it true ?
In fact, it is close to the truth! The elephants
have a very good memory.
They can remember for years their relationship
with other elephants. Maybe it's because they
have such a big brain !
