At
this the judge took from his pocket
five gleaming coins made of gold.
He put the coins into a little black
bag
and gave them to George to hold.
`Now, Young man,'
he said. `I want you
to give that purse a good shake.
Let Mr Crumb hear the delightful noise
five clinking gold coins can make.'
Clink... clink...
clink. . . clink the coins rattled
in the black bag George shook to and
fro.
He shook it until the judge stopped
him and said.
`That's enough. You are free to go.'
Free to go! George
couldn't believe it.
Mr Crumb looked shocked and dismayed.
Then the judge stood up, adjusted his
wig,
and explained the decision he'd made.
